Sound Problems: Static

I reinstalled windows on a new raptor drive.

System has a SB 5.1 Live Platinum sound card. Windows installed the default drivers for the sound card and everything worked fine.

I installed the KLite codec package, everything continued to work fine.

I did Windows updates and everything worked fine.

I did the Media Player 10 update, then my sound turned to shit. When I turn the volume on, it is nothing but static. Disabling the sound card driver turns the static off.

I alread tried:

• uninstalling Media Player 10
• reinstalling the windows driver
• installing the driver package from creative
• different speakers
• reinstalling the klite codec package

I also tried the stupid Windows Help Walkthrough which did nothing.

Any suggestions please?

are you sure you completely removed the drivers? even deleted the old infs?

regularly, a driver reinstall would help. It might be AudioHQ's software, so see if you get sound after uninstalling AHQ.

maybe even a motherboard bios flash.

- or it just might be that your sound card crapped out.

where specifically would these inf files be located and named? Removing Audio HQ did nothing.

it should be in your windows/temp directory. sometimes windows will install the old drivers again if the new and old versions does not have the same inf name; usually its smart enough to install the updated one but there are exceptions.

I deleted the files from my temp directory.
I deleted all traces of creative from my registry.

In my system32 folder I tried deleting the dll files associated with the sound card. As soon as I delete them, they are recreated.

I deleted everything, when windows restarts it finds the sound card and installs the drivers. As soon as the drivers install, the static starts in my speakers.
