I posted about this on the general forums, but it was a big thread of me asking for stuff, but hopefully it can be quickly answered here.

So pretty much, when playing music/games, i experience this kinda, Clicking/Ticking crackling sound. Which is really starting to bother me, its no problem in games, but when listening to music, which is pretty much 90% of the time, it can really be noticed.

The only thing that i have done in the past few days was upgrade to 9800gtx and update my sound cards drivers to the latest ones on creatives website (the july ones)

If you cant read the sig, my sound card is a audigy 2zs

Dont recall if the sound problems happened with my old 8600gt. Might the new 9800gtx be causing this? and how?

i just went to onboard sound and problem is still there, guess i have to live with it for now ><

It may be down to EM radiation from your new gfx card.
Not that easy to test for, you need to put a metal shield round the gfx card.

I have an audigy 2 and that thing picks up pops and cracks too. I just ended up picking up a usb soundcard and the problem went away. The insides of a computer case is just a bath of noisy components and an unshielded soundcard will pick up those noises, the onboard will pick it up even more. usb is the way to go but if that isn't an option then you can try shielding the sound card with an anti static bag.

Anti-Static bag? Metal shield? im confused.

like i said, its not really a problem in-game, but u can really notice it while listening to music

Never heard of a usb sound card, are they reliable? and will upgrading to a X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty fix this problem? or is the case around that sound card just for looks?

bump, so today, been getting nothing but blue screens. Randomly

and when i restart it says i dont have a output device installed, and no blue screens, now when it actually works, i get a blue screen? Is my sound card dieing or something? Another thing that wonders me, is when i plug my speakers/headphones in, if i move the card in the process, even nudge it, it crashes my system.

Im thinking of just going to onboard for now and pick up xfi's pcie card.

any thoughts?

Try resetting your CMOS in case something is corrupt.

Failing that, it might be showing up a power supply problem, try another newer / more powerful PSU.
If that doesnt work and it is still crashing your PC when you plug it in, it is likely to be damaged or on the edge of tolerance to function in your PC.
Try it in another PC and see if it can still work ok.
If so, you can work from there.

How do you reset your cmos? Im guessing take out the battery for a certain period of time?

I doubt its my power supply, i switched out to onboard sound and the same problem persists. Like i said, the problem goes away once i switch to my 8600gt.

So pretty much the problem is when my 9800gtx is installed. Im dealing with it atm, but if i can get it fixed, it would be nice

Yes you can take out the battery or use the CMOS reset jumper if there is one.
Switching out to onboard sound does nothing to test the PSU.
Your 8600GT uses a lot less power than your 9800GTX so PSU is suspect.

did the reset cmos thing, no luck
i borrowed my cousins corsair psu and the problem is still there. Can this be caused by the card? it makes me wonder because the card works perfectly.

You said it blue screens your PC and crashes it when the card is nudged.

Yes, but like i said, i went to onboard sound and the problem is still there, so thats kinda weird. I tried diff drivers and older drivers actually made it worse.

I'm completely lost.
It works perfectly but makes your PC crash / blue screen? pls explain.
It also makes noises.
Are those all still current issues?

The blue screens/crashes are caused by me nudging the sound card , meaning when plugging in my headphones/speakers, if i plug it in too hard, it gives me the blue screen, i dont know if this is caused by improper installing, but i have reinstalled it in each slot and it still happends.

The noises are when im logged in, when im listening to music, i hear this popping/clicking noise every prob 2-3 seconds, sometimes u can notice it, sometimes u can cannot, it happends both ingame and out.

the thing im trying to figure out is why is it making those noises, the cause is clearly my new 9800gtx, but i went back to the comp store that i bought it at and they gave me another and problem is still there.

Nudging the sound card shouldnt make it crash, I'd start there to make sure it is at least stable.
Do you get a lot of static problems where you are?
Does this happen regardless of which graphics card you have plugged in?

Yup, its kinda weird, one of my buddies has a usb sound card, im a borrow it and see if the problem goes away.

Not really sure, but ived had moments where my sound goes all robotic for a good ammount of time (1 min), and i have to restart to make it go back to normal, recently it hasn't been happening.

The weird part is, I Plug in my old 8600gt and the problem goes away, its very weird.

looks like i fixed it, switched the card to another pci slot and it went away.

thanks for the help nenu
