Sound Issue Question

My speakers that came with my Gateway desktop went out about a month ago (probably 5 years old). Anyway I went and purchaed a set of Logitech speakers for about $20. They worked fine for a day or two then I began noticing that the left speaker would go dead. I tinkered with it a bit and they would work again, figued I had a bad set and returned them. Tried another set just like them, worked fine for a couple of weeks and same thing happened again.

I found a set of Phillips 80W speakers on sale and tried them. They have been working perfectly up until tonight. The left speaker is dead again when I try to play any video on youtube. I have a couple of videos saved in a file offline on my computer and I am getting audio fine out of both speakers.

Any idea as to what may be wrong and why I am only getting audio out of one speaker while playing youtube videos vs both speakers when playing filed videos?

If it is a sound card issue, please explain in detail. I'll be the first to admit I am not a computer guru.
