Sound Crackling, Please HELP

Basically when my computer is "thinking" the music that i would be playing begins to cracle and break up. :confused: This hasn't happened until today. And sometimes it will just start doing it in some what of a beat mannor. Like it will break up then stop and then do it again on the same tempo for a while. Any ideas as to how to fix if?

If you got a SB Live!/Audigy series card, then I'm not at all suprised.

Check the IRQ your soundcard is on. If it is almost last (IRQ in the 20's), i suggest you switch to the Advanced Config and Power Interface (ACPI) for your computer (if it is on something else right now).

*another thing to check is if your Southbridge is too hot. This was an issue on many rev1.xx's mobos...and as such, my Southbridge has a heatsink on it. Keeps it nice and cool*
 
Well i am currently running the built in 5.1 on my ABIT mobo. So that probobly rules out the IRQ thing although i dont know anything about IRQ's. But it might be that it is too hot. But the strange thing is that its been fine up till now. It is only about 2 months old, but none the less it is strange.... So do you think it is that the Southbridge is too hot?
 
I've been having the same issue with mine (except it's been from day one). It seems to be mostly related to HD traffic for me. Have you recently installed any programs that start when your computer starts up? How much ram do you have? Is your power supply on ABIT's recommended list? My current one isn't but I have one on order. Oddly enough... I've tried an old SB Live! and the problem is diminished but still there. Weird eh?

i had a similar problem 2 different times.

1st time i updated the sound drivers and that fixed it.
2nd time i muted the "line-in" option in the volume control

yeah, im sure half the people returning their new speakers to newegg just forgot to turn off the line-in
