I was just wondering if anyone has purchased a cold cathode that is sound card controlled. I myself have one that I bought on clearance from Directron.com. The way it works is that you plug something from the line out on your sound card to the small card that fits in a PCI slot, then plug your speakers into that. Basically the signal passes through this little card first.

Anyways, I was interested in buying a new one but can't find any. Note I'm not talking about a voice activated one, since I don't like them. Something that reacts ONLY to sound played by your comptuer.

why bother with the little card that you have to bridge connections to, most sound activated ones / sound reactive ones, have a tiny mic that reads vibrations caused by your speakers. Dont you think that by plugging your speakers into that card and bridging your soundcard's outputs through it, you may lose sound quality? Does that card even support a 5.1 speaker system, that would allow the correct signal output to each satalite, and to your sub? I would stick to 1 that has the minni speaker :D

I don't know if it loses quality, but it seems to be working just fine for me. I have it going from a Sound Blaster Audigy to a Cambridge Soundworks/Creative DDT3500 5.1 system. Maybe I should listen to it a bit more closely, but I honestly haven't noticed a difference. It's not an actual PCI card, so maybe that could be the reason it wouldn't change sound quality.

that sounds interesting, i never heard of that tho, altho ive thought about making one... i would love to see what this is like

It was like $8 a pop from Directron when it went on clearance. I'm definetly going to ask about it there. These are the coolest cathodes I've seen.

And one cool part is they work no matter what level your sound is set on. I can mute my speakers and they still flash. I can adjust the sensitivity so that it's only to bass, or perhaps a bit more sensitive so it's to the louder sounds also.
