Just wondering how many of you use a sound card or just onboard.
I didnt put this in the Audio forum because I figure that would be a tab bit biased.

I cant tell the difference/dont have high enough quality speaker to tell the diffrence between the sound quality of my onboard and that of a soundcard. I also dont feel that the 0.5fps extra I would get in D3 is worth the money and or hassle.
 
I've spent near $500 for my sound card and headphones/amp. I'm an audiophile on a budget.

Hmm, more money for sound than video, funny.
 
Audigy 2 Platinum eX + Inspire 6.1s...bought for about £300 (approx. $527) many years ago.

Modded Audigy 2 ZS and modded E-mu 0404, wait, this feels like deja-vu... :p

Some other cards I have owned in the past...SB Live! 5.1, Hercules Fortissimo III, Chaintech AV-710, Audigy Platinum

2 soundcards here, Modded EMU 0404 and Audigy2. ($101+)

Hooked up to a MisterX PPA with Senn HD600s, modded Alessandro MS-1s and Ultrasone HFI-650s (thanks GodsMadClown!)
 
I bought my Audigy 2 ZS when it first came out (~$115)... however, it's the only thing that I've used in all three of my rigs (including my current one...).
 
Audigy 2 ZS but thinking about adding an AV-710 for headphone listening.
 
Onboard VIA Envy 24 7.1 sound. I had an Audigy Plat. EXT. and personally I can't really tell much difference in sound between the two.
 
I have an Audigy 2 NX. I got it for $150 canadian I believe. It's hooked up to my laptop. The output quality blows the onboard sound away but the mic recording blows chunks compared to the onboard audio so I just use the onboard audio for recording (and when i'm away from my desk).

I have it hooked up to an 80s vintage Realistic STA-450 receiver. I plug my Sennheiser HD570s into the Receiver for improved sound quality (headphone amp built into the soundcard isn't too great compared to the headphone amp built into the receiver... god bless vintage receivers man. I havn't owned an audio device with a better sounding headphone output to date. Next best thing to a headphone amp. :);)
 
"Do I have a soundcard?"... yes I have three, of which two are installed in the same PC. One for multitrack audio and LP recording (EMU 1820) and one for surround/gaming (A2 ZS). Works fine without conflicts even with both cards enabled, although I normally disable one of them.

Also have onboard sound on my HTPC (Intel "High" Definition 7.1) and my laptop (AC'97, good enough for listening to MP3s while working).
 
I was using a SB 128 PCI until it died, then I switched to the onboard (GA-7VRXP) sound, which uses the same chip as the card which died :p

Until I upgrade to a decent amplifier and speakers onboard sound suffices.
 
i always had the money to buy an audigy 2 but i never going to now because my p4 motherboard now have 24bit hd audio onboard, cool huh!!
 
my 1st card was a sound blaster live, then a live 5.1...

Then I had the Fortissimo III

I recently got the audigy 2 value card, after using the onboard ac97 for awhile.

The Fortissimo is still in my wifes computer.

As for Speakers I have 2 Sets of the Altec Lansing 251's... had those for about 3 years now.
