Hey guys,
im looking for a sound card for my computer to try and solve my issue below. it needs to be a pci card and the prices is right around 100 dollars. i was looking at this card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102006) and was going to pick it up at frys today if i can. is this a good card? it seems to have a lot of good review on newegg, and it does fit into my price range.
is there somehting better or cheaper? i was looking at 30 dollar cards but i found an issue that because they didnt have their own processor, they sucked up too much processing power

That's on sale for like 40 bucks after rebate at Fry's right now or something, so go ahead and grab it. Although with an i5-750 I'm hard pressed to believe the additional CPU power needed for sound processing really matters to begin with.

ive read a couple of places that this card has issues with mics (which is what im trying to fix). can anyone confirm or deny this? also is there any specific way to uninstall the audio drivers other than inserting the mobo disk and uninstalling?

would the xonar ds be a good compromise in price? or is the quality of the creative way better for the 50 dollar price difference? (i know MIR makes it a 10 dollar difference but that takes 10 weeks and im worried by about 25% of the reviews saying the mic doesnt work well with this card)
my main issues is that money is tight. i would be able to afford the creative but if this xonar works just as good for a cheaper price id rather get that. The MAIN reason im looking at sound cards is becuase for some reason my on board audio will not let my mic work, as stated in my other thread in this forum with details.

Xonar Ds

Maybe you would like the Omega striker. Good reviews on the egg. Buy it now new on ebay for 70 ish.

does it have to be new? you can find some nice pci cards in your price range on ebay and some other forums. i think you can get the x-fi platinum used for around 70-80 bucks.

otherwise there is nothing wrong with the card you linked to. if you are using headphones i would reach for the xonar ds for dolby headphone instead. if not, i'd get the x-fi. just my opinion.

OP, i have that card and it does a great job for gaming and music. For $40, thats a decent deal. I did notice a few mic problems when I first installed it. For instance, I could hear mic audio in my headphones, or low mic audio. They seemed to be related to new driver bugs and a reset cleared them up. Any reoccurances were just user error and some setting adjustments were to blame (I play with the audio alot).

thats good to hear. i think imma go with the x-fi because of future 5.1 upgrade for the comp. right now i just use headphones, but when i get some 5.1 speakers the headphones will only be used at night. thats for all the suggestions guy.

off to frys!!

Update:
so in store the car is 20 dollars cheaper than listed online. online its 99 with 40 dollar rebate
in store its 79 with 40 dolalr rebate
