anyone know of a sound card comparable to my current Auzentech X-Fi Prelude 7.1?...doing some research it seems the Asus Xonar DSX might be a good replacement...I don't use headphones and have a dedicated 5.1 speaker setup, mostly for games

**I have a separate TV/speaker setup for my television and only need the sound card for my computer

I thought the DX was the step down version of the DSX but I see the DX is double the price...which is the 'higher' level card?...my current Auzentech has some quality components so I'm assuming the only way for me to get that same level is to go with the Phoebus version?
 
Not going to get a real improvement in sound changing cards. The Asus DX which I have does have excellent sound quality but I doubt it is much better than the prelude.

What is bothering you about your current setup?

the only reason I'm looking to 'upgrade' is that the Auzentech is having issues with Windows 8 and Auzentech doesn't look like they are supporting the card any longer with driver updates

is the DX an improved version of the DSX?
 
Yup the DX is the "mid level" card. The dsx and dgx are entry level.

I use mine as a digital transport into my receiver. The sound card sounds ok but it pales in comparison to my receiver. I mostly listen to my 558 headphones as my wife tends to take a dim view of WW3 erupting in the basement. Scares her she says. Wuss.

Still, the dx is an excellent card for 5.1. What speaker setup are you using?

I'm using a crappy Creative 5.1 speaker setup but like I stated all I need it to sound good for is games...I have a separate HT setup I use for my real TV/Blu-ray watching (55" VT30 plasma, Denon receiver, Aperion 5.1 speakers)

the fact that the ASUS lineup has gotten excellent reviews plus supports Windows 8 is the only reason I want to switch...I thought the DSX was the mid range and the Phoebus the high end but it looks like the DX is the one I should be looking into
 
Yeah. The DX is the one you want. Unless you upgrade the speakers, you would not hear much difference b/w it and the phoebus which looks a bit sketchy at first glance.
