Sound Card Recommendation

I currently own the HDA Digital X Mystique 7.1 (I know it is old to some). Anyways, I just upgraded to the P35 (Asus P5Ke) chipset that has HD Audio. My question is; which one is better? My experience and previous thread reading always state that onboard audio is not as good as 3rd party ones; but I also realize that the HDA is old. Mostly play videos and music; although I do play games on occasion.
