alright i know that there are so many sound cards...but whats the difference between the $200 sound cards and the $15 sounds cards. i know that there must be a difference between the qualities, but is there really a $185 difference? also i saw that a Chaintech AV-710 was recommended and that was only like $30 shipped, is that really a good sound card? would it be better than the stock one that i have now? thanks

Many more expensive sound cards are geared more towards professional application, with functions that everyday consumers will most likely not be using. Outside of that, yes they do sound better (ex. Emu cards etc.) but it's only optimal if you pair them up with a good supporting cast of equipment (cables, good headphones, amp).

The Chaintech is a great budget card. Noticeable improvement over my old SB Live. Doesn't have a true headphone OUT, but powers most sub $100 headphones just fine imo. Didn't do such a great job with d66 eggos, but others were great. Be wary that cards like Chaintech do not have the hardware acceleration that Creative Audigy cards have, and you'll take some fps hit in games in comparison. You'll also miss the EAX.
