Sound Card questions?

i have a DFI UT CFX3200 with onboard sound
what is the big deal about having something like a Soundblaster XFI---
does it help much in gaming?
i never really messed much with sound so not sure,
i have 2 speakers and subwoofer, would it help me at all?
 
It depends on what you want, a good sound or a performance boost. With X-Fi you will get a performance boost compared to the onboard sound and you will also get a better sound but if you only have a cheap speaker, the sound difference will not be much. If you want a better sound then the first thing you should have is a good speaker then a good sound card, there are also sound cards that will sound better then X-Fi(in some games, people said that with Creative's EAX support X-Fi will sound better but I don't need it). You won't get much performance boost with other cards like you get with the X-Fi. Disabling the sound will give a better performance boost lol.
