I've been thinking this over for the past few months. I want to get away from my onboard sound card to either a dedicated sound card or a receiver. I primary play video games and listen to music while playing MMO's. My budget is ~200 or so.

Also when using a receiver how does it setup? do you plug it in to your onboard sound card so your onboard decodes and than sends it to the Receiver and that than decodes it again?

I'm also looking for a headset that i'll also use the clip on mic on. my budget for that is ~250ish

thanks in advance

I have an intel mb with onboard sound, and have had both computer speakers and a reciever which i have currently.

I have a HArmon Kardon AVR25 and two infinity Crescendo speakers for my computer and the sound is great, as the amplifier does most of the work, and the speakers are of decent quality the sound is good.

I upgraded to a newer sound system set up and have this equipment for sale.

Pictures are posted under the coolermaster thread under my user name.

Let me know if your interested. Cant beat it for the price.

GL!!

What speakers do you have? If you have low quality speakers, there is no real point in getting a soundcard or receiver.

not sure of the model number but it was the model before the logitech z5500's. bought them back in 2004. 1000W peak power 500W cont power

lol

Now go buy a pair of the JVC HAR-X700 or 900 for $34-65 and a $7 Zalman clip on mic.

Get a X-FI Titanium sound card and run the speakers via the optical out and the headphones via the analogue.

If you decide after listening to the headphones that you hate the logitechs please let us know. We can help.

yea the logitech is just a "lil" bass heavy..... but it was my first pc i build in 04 and first speakers i bought. For headphones i can go a lot higher in price range that 34-65 dollars. 200 - 250 i can go up to.

In that case, go for the Audio Technica AD900 for one of the best and most comfy headphones around (before we get into the hundreds and hundreds or thousands price range, that is).

Yeah, if you ever want recommendations for speakers, this is the place to be.

Do i need an amp for the Audio Technica AD900? if so what do ya'll recommend in the price range of 100-150? not really sure how much headphones amp go for.

where do i use said cashback deal? also was readign up on the zero, it has a fiber and Coaxial input thats it? so i purchase the X-FI Titanium plug speakers via fiber and amp via Coaxial.

If i buy a receiver than i dont need to buy a DAC / amp right? and this will give me more lee way in upgrading the logitech to some decent monitors?

also to Merc187 sounds interesting but unsure on your views to ship to an APO address
