Sound card not working in ubuntu

I just installed ubuntu on my compaq armada 7800, it has a ESS 1879 Plug and play audiodrive (WDM) and it isn't showing up.

Can't help with what you do have except to say that CMI 8738 works flawlwssly here. Cheap cards too.

YAY! I was hunting across the internet and found this solution: https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2004-November/msg02510.html

The ESS 1688 from the LTE series is also an isa card with no pnp so therefore the driver should work with the ESS 1879 isa

I did a few modifications to the text from that website and got this :



type this in at the shell:
modprobe snd-es1688 port=0x220 mpu_port=0x388 irq=5 dma8=1
then to start the sound system
esd


and the sound should work along with the microphone

Anyone know to to make ubuntu do that at startup?


Now I'm on to the wifi *sigh*
