Sound card not workin

hi, i have a soundcard then i took it out then put it back in. after i turned on the computer it did not work. when i clicked on sound in the control pannel, under volume it said no audio device. then i clicked hardware and saw my card. it said the location was unknown. and under device status it said this device cannot start(code 10). then i uninstalled the software then renstalled the software adn that didnt work. then i switched the slot it was in and put it in a different one and the same problems still happend. so now i dont no hwat to do im thinking i just need to get a new soundcard. what do u think is wrong with it. rite now i have a sound blaster 16. i have, p4 2.8

You removed it, for some reason, then put it back...
Now it no longer works?

The device manager shows unknown, but then says it doesn't start...

Now for some questions...
Does it recognize the device correctly in the device mananger? IE as a sound blaster 16. Are you sure you have the correct drivers for it, creative has strange quirks with their drivers..

If both of those are true I would uninstall all of the software and drivers and then reinstall fresh, making sure to remove all traces using something like driver cleaner
 
thanks for the info, i did all of that but it still did not work. so i was thinking it might just be a hardware problem so i guess ill just have to get another one. do u think thats a good idea

Have you tried placing the card in another computer?
