I have a DX1. It sounds ok straight out of the card but much better when using the optical out into my receiver. Problem is: to use the optical out I have to disable the microphone. Not acceptable. Knowing that the game is coded for 48hz, what current sound card would be the best for me? One with separate optical/coaxial out and mic input into my receiver or one with a better dac than my DX1 for use without the receiver?

USB mic would work, I guess. If you really want a SC though go with either the Xonar STX or HT Omega line for a nice DAC. If you want better virtual surround get a X-fi Titanium HD. CMSS is by far superior to Dobly Headphone.

Yeah but won't that cause conflicts? I have been thinking about the blue snowflake mic.

I have had three different USB mics with a Xonar DG, X-Fi ExtremeGamer, Recon 3D, and Sound Blaster Z card without any issues. I am not sure where the conflicts would come from. I have been using Skype and Ventrilo. With all of the sound cards and mic combo, I just talk (or use press to talk) and everything works OK.

Naw, using bf3 sound engine without any other processing is the best sound quality. Just the dac on the DX sucks compared to my receiver.

I will give the usb mic a try. Found a decent one on amazon for $10.

Just curious, but why did you buy a USB microphone versus just using your line-in/microphone port on your motherboard?

Another vote for a USB microphone. Been using a USB Logitech desktop mic. for nearly 6 years and never had any issues.

Some people (myself included) disable the onboard audio through BIOS when they get a sound card; makes for one less thing for windows to have to deal with.

Yeah I disabled the onboard. It causes conflicts at times. Anything you can do to avoid conflicts with the BF series....well, you best do it.
