Sound Card Issues

I am having problems with my OS not saving soundcard settings. When i go to 'Sounds and Audio Devices' in the control panel, then change the advanced speaker settings, my system does not store the changes after a reboot. Once i reboot, the settings are reverted back to the initial settings of 'Desktop Stereo Speakers'.

I am using a soundblaster audigy 1 mp3+ with the latest drivers and winXP. Anyone have any ideas on what is going on? I just reformattted my system a few weeks ago, so im skeptical about it being any kind of OS corruption.

ive tried uninstalling then reinstalling the newest drivers to no avail. Ive also removed the soundcard hardware drivers from the device manager, and again it didnt work.

I reformatted my computer less than a month ago, so i would prefer not to do that again.

Nobody has any ideas?????
