Sound Card + Headphone

I'm looking to upgrade on my new build from the onboard to an x-fi-- probably either a platinum or the Fatal1ty X-fi. I'm looking for high-quality headphone, the problem is I don't know whether I want closed or open. is the sound that noticably different between the two in terms of quality? If so, can someone reccomend me a good closed phone? If i go with open, I'll probably get the Sennheiser 595's.

no real quality diff, but obviously if ure room is loud and its open ull hear more outside noise, also the senn 595's are good, or the dt770's
