sound acceleration for games?

How do I get the best performance out of an Audigy/Soundstorm?

Not in term of sound quality but performance? Do these cards run faster with sound acceleration to full/low or none? I am talking about the values found in the Directx control panel.

If I set it to off or simple can that give me worse performance since it uses software acceleration in that mode or does it just disable EAX/D3D sound and other stuff?
 
i always put acceleration on full.. i wouldn't think it would make too much of a difference.. unless your start chaning the quality within the game itself.

Well in some games like LOMAC they say it got a considerable impact in performance and that it helps to turn sound acceleration off. In games like LOMAC and FS 2004 you don´t really need it anyway.
