Sony Xbrite Owners--Question

So from everything I have been reading, it appears everyone is turning their monitors down to a much lower setting. It's almost impossible to get any real sense of how a panel looks at any of the box stores with all of their extreme lighting. So my question is, does turning the monitor down defeat the purpose of what Sony's marketing department refers to as XBrite?

I'm vascilating between the Sony 19" HS95P/S and the matte finish of the Samsung 930B.

I'm in a similar boat trying to decide between them this week. To me the sony screen looks shaper can brighter because of the glossy front. However in Circuit City and Best Buy it also looks very reflective with lots of glare from the overhead lights. The guy last night at BB said he prefered the 930b because of its faster refreash and that they had several returns of the Sony's with issues out of the box. But most of the newer laptops have the same type of glossy screen as the Sony so it can't be all that bad -- can it?

BB / CC both have the $90 rebates on the 930b, and $100 on the Sony - but CC also has another $50 on the Sony on their website. In another thread here a guy said they had it for $629 intead of $699 but I haven't been able to find that anywhere.

So the samsung is faster, newer, and less expensive (but not DVI cable) -- while the I just think the sony looks crisper and better overall and there might be questions of out of the box quality?

Anyone else have any comments or thoughts on which is better or where to get the best deal?

I'm glad I'm not the only one. :)

I don't know that the Samsung is newer insofar as it seems just a revamped 712N I think it is. Added the DVI input but using the same panel. Also, I am wondering if they just oveclocked it to achieve the 8ms. (I think the term is overdrive). I think it's gray-to-gray they are measuring too. Hopefully someone can clarify this.

At CC they run them all in a loop and the Sony seemd to be better with more color differation. Look on CC's site and you'll see it at $629.

The whole point of my buying it at a store is to ease returns and if I have to change out the Sony, while a pain, it's the main advantage to forking over sales tax.
 
Ah, didn' t click 'add to cart' to see the $629.00 price -- then with the $150 in rebates its somewhat more reasonable. I wonder if we get it through the website for the lower price that we can return it to the local store for out of the box pixel issues? I would that so.

I called the store and yes, as long as it's in stock can be exchanged within their 14 day period.
 
After reading a few of the threads here, I've got a few more questions on making the decsion between the samsung 930b and the sony hs95p:

1.) are they both TN screens? or is the samsung a PVA? (Samsung created PVA? -- so are all theirs PVA) I can't find those details in the mfg's spec's anywhere. It sounds like the TN screens have worse color reproduction but the Sony looks crisp and vibrant with its colors.

I will be doing some gaming and dvd watching, but also want a the better all-around monitor in terms of color.
