Hello, my brother has a Sony VAIO model PCV-A11L.
Something went wrong in his computer and he had to reformat.
The reformatting process went fine but he cannot access the internet due to his lack of drivers.
I checked Sony's site for the drivers, but his computer model doesn't even exist in their database.
When I do type it in, it gives a # of different models (that aren't his) to select from.
I've tried a few of the modem drivers for those models and none of them seem to work either saying "this driver is not intended for this model)
Can anyone help me find the driver for it?

edit- few more information.
He didn't reinstall the OS that it came with, (Windows XP Media Center Edition) but installed Windows XP SP 2 instead. Does this effect the compatibility of the driver?

Most likely? No.

What's the model number?
Many model numbers have prefix or suffixes, that you don't need when searching for a model number (Granted- most should realize that number is a valid one though).

Like many NICs or Graphic Cards have an "L" at the end to specify low profile.... The drivers are the same exact as the non-L ones, but if you search for the one with the L on the end it might not come up with anything.

Just my two cents. If you post the model # someone might be able to tell you!
 
Also, I'm assuming he is missing the disk that came with it, that has all the drivers?
 
why did you format instead of using the recovery tool? well...since its not an stoled laptop,. just email tech support with the proper serial number and they'll email all the drivers you need..good luck
 
Thats actually not the model number. Well it is but thats not the one you need. That machine is actually a VGC-RA820G.

That "should" be on a tiny sticker on the front of the machine but it is often removed and/or scuffed off. The number you gave is on the back of the machine and is for all intents and purposes, useless.

Here is where you want to be. Before you will be able to install anything you need to first download and install the one called Sony Shared Library. All of the other drivers and Sony software use that to ID that you have the proper machine for the driver.

Just tried it and I got the same result (not intended for model) =x
Tried the versions for VGC-RA820G and other varients that I do get when I type in PCV-A11L on sony's website (figured they were the same but tried anyway).
Any more things I should try?

edit - oops, skipped a post.
Thanks, I'll e-mail them now. hopefully I'll get a better result.
