yep. if they made a modest priced (AKA Not forcing their propriatary blu-ray onto the consumer) system for <$350, i bet most PS2 fans would migrate over to PS3. But as it is, xbox 360 beat them out of the gate, so they are allready down a notch...the Wii is cheap and may still come out sooner, so the PS3 is going to be the most expensive console, late to the party.

They need to pull their heads out of their asses and make a gaming machine, not a half assed piece of shit to push their blu-ray technology. With any luck, blu-ray will go down with PS3...then sony will have to pull an Intel...actually make a better product. But after the whole rootkit fiasco, I wont buy any sony product ever again.
 
They even rip their marketing off of Nintendo - "hmm, nintendo is using a 5 year old's slang, so we'd better do the same!"

I wouldn't discount Sony from the next gen console race yet, as it's too early to tell. However, I think we are getting hints that Sony is getting desperate. The fact that they delayed their own Blu-Ray player doesn't look good, as they are likely the biggest advocates of that technology. I just don't understand why a company as rich as them won't just pay the licensing fees like Microsoft to put the rumble feature into the controllers.

With the Wii, it wasn't that bad because the awesomeness of the console and some of its early games clearly set it off from the fact that it had a craptastic name.

But with the POOS, it combines an already crippled controller with all the marketing genius of poo and P.O.S. Which are, actually, exactly the same thing...

Actually there are talks Immersion or logitech is working with Sony to develop rumber before it ships. And for the last time, I highly doubt it will be pronounced "POOH"....think of the oO as the infinity symbol. They are talking about a logo, not pronunciation.
 
600 dollars is not that much money. I'm going to buy the PS3 not for it's blue-ray or for it's hype. I'll buy it simply because I know there be TONS of good games for it. MGS4, Gran Turismo, Tekken, FF, etc. I loved the PS2 for it's games and I'm sure the PS3 will be the same for me. Hell, I'd even buy it if only Final Fantasy 13 came out for it... it's not the system that sells the system, it's the games.
 
Sony doesn't care about their gaming division's success or profitability. They are using it as a mule, a trojan horse if you will, to push their proprietary technologies into consumer households. Do you have any idea how much money Sony will make in licensing fees for every blu-ray movie sold? If blu-ray wins this format war, which it likely will because it is exactly what happened with DVD's, Sony will make a fortune from every single movie sold all around the world. They did it with the PS2 and now they are doing it again.

So far the only games that are coming out for it that I'd buy are FFXIII and MGS4, but there's no way I'd buy a PS3 just for that. That's... $400 per game. Sorry. Here's to hoping that those games will come to the other consoles, but if not, I'd be OK without them. At least until PS3 gets down to an actually affordable range, like maybe $400.
 
IMO, the PS3 should be priced at $350 and have a hard drive, and be able to do at least 720p. Blu-ray should be optional. The hardware should be built to accommodate the consumer, not the other way around. $600 is way too much for a console. The last console they made was only $300... wtf?

Cut all the fat out of the console, and give me a gaming machine. That's is what a console is for, after all...

1. DVD was a Phillips thing, not Sony
2. DVD was already established as the new format for movies before Sony included DVD player functionality into the PS2
3. With DVD, it was a huge step up from VHS. No more rewinding tapes, no more having tapes getting eaten, no more head cleaner, no more tracking issues, dvd extras, etc. Blu-Ray and even HD-DVD don't offer much improvement beyond more room for better resolution and sound. I'm not saying that one of them won't eventually prevail, but DVD is still going to be around for a long, long time yet.

Sony is making a big mistake including the Blu-Ray player and driving up the cost of their already delayed console, especially considering the games aren't phenominally better than the already established and less expensive Xbox 360.

Every company has IP rights to their controller, this is nothing new. The PS3 controller is a DS2 + motion sensing, sounds perfect to me, if only they would bring back vibration.
