Hey.

My Dad is looking for a new digital camera. He likes the Sony P150 with the Carl Zeiss lens. Personally, I don't think he needs 7.1 Mega Pixels lol.

Any comments on this model?
I suggested the Canon A85/95...I have the S50 but I think its a tad too big.

I looked into it, since you don't see a lot of cameras with >7MP resolution and yet <$500. I expected to find that it was pretty poor, just because of this fact. However, the samples I've seen look quite good and the couple of reviews I looked at were very positive. Sounds like a great little ultra-compact camera. I'd say go for it, but definitely get some more opinions, since this is all second-hand.

I've been hanging out at dpreview's sony talk forum for quite a while now. I have noticed that some p150 owners have been dissapointed with it's flash compared to the p100. I know the two seem almost identical except for the extra 2mp, but there are a few slight differences in case front and flash. I own a p100 and I would recommend it to anyone, and when the p150 first hit the streets I was a little envious. But after reading the posts from users, I'm perfectly content now with the p100. Your dad could save a few bucks and not be dissapointed at all with the 5mp version. The speed and focus of the sony will outshine the canons no doubt.

edit: I'd also like to add....the battery of the p150/p100 is really awesome. 300 pics on a single charge. I took it to alaska for a week and took just under 300 pics and didn't charge it once, and that was including viewing my pics each night too. Sony's infolithium is the way to go over AA batteries IMO. They tell you exactly how much time you have left, down to the minute.
