Sony HX73 vs VP171

I'm thinking of purchasing a sony hx 73 monitor. Can anyone tell me about the quality of this monitor?

The other tft I'm thinking about is the VP171 - I know about the huge thread but can anyone tell me if the viewing angle causes changes in brightness across the screen?

In Australia sony offers a zero dead pixel guarantee on the warranty so I know I won't get any dead pixels with the hx. That's makes the sony attractive.

Please don't hit me with rave reviews only the vp171. I'd really like to hear from anyone who knows about the sony as I've had trouble finding out about the hx73.

from what i know, they're both very nice lcd's. but i think that 0 dead pixel policy would lean me towards the sony panel.
 
Im using the sony hx 73 its great in every way games color brightness its little more $ but its worth it.
 
I have a HX-73 and I have nothing negative to say about it.
I've play games, watch movies, do everyday tasks on it and it's been perfect.

Sony has a 0 dead pixel policy?

I thought it was 3 pixels.

I have the Sony monitor and I have one pixel stuck to blue, but haven't called Sony because I didn't think they would do anything about it. That and the pixel is at the bottom of the screen and doesn't interfere in any way. In fact, the only time you can see it is on a black background.

I don't think Sony have the policy in the US - only Australia (sorry!).

How does the viewsonic stack up against it?

How even is the back light when looking at it straight on?

i did, but they guy did a poor job on packaging the rigth top corner of the monitor was damage.. the bezels.. :( really poor job on packaging.. he emailed viewsonice if he can get a parts of this kind of monitor so he'll let me know.. but i havent pay him yet till this is resolve.. if u want pics i can give you the link.
 
Can anyone tell me about the viewing angles on either of the monitors?

I've heard that the viewsonic's aren't great and can be a little strange in vertical mode.
 
I think the Sony X73 and HX73 is better than the Viewsonic 171B.

At least the HX73 looks to be the best option for a 17".
 
Yeah. I like the idea of a swivel screen for web browsing/word processing but I'm a little concerned about the viewing angles on the viewsonic - an anyone help out with this??

Can anyone tell me what the colour quality and the general image quality (esp text) is like on the sony?

Love to find that out! It probably isn't the AU Optronics one that is used by most the other 16ms models, as it appears to do the full 16.7 million colours.

Yeah I'd like to know if it does true 24bit.

I was going to get the vp171b but I'm not 100% sold on that 18bit colour.

If i'm gonna fork out $$$ on a screen I need to it be perfect.

The Sony doesn't do true 24-bit... a lot of third-party consumer sites say it does, but some non-US Sony sites say it only does the 16.2-million (so, 18-bit, 262,000 colors dithered to 16.2 million)... just like most other panels. I don't know who makes it, though.

General image quality on the Sony is excellent... I'm not dissappointed in the slightest. Text looks excellent, even better through DVI.
 
Bah looks like I won't be picking up one of these either then.

If I'm going to fork out a lot of cash for 2 LCDs, they better damn well do 24bit, and be perfect for video/games/text :)

They are perfic for games at least the hx73 is. Your eyes cant tell the differnce between 16 mil an 24 bit any way.
 
Yeah, but you can tell the diff in movies.

Dark areas don't are too gradient, and some areas can flash if the LCD is switching between 2 colours.

Let's just say that if I'm going to spend $$$ on an LCD, it cannot do that. It needs to be perfect.

I.E Be True 24bit, have a fast response <16ms, and be able to display 100% of the colour spectrum perfectly.

As far as I see it, there isn't and LCD like that on the markey :(.

I agree it does have to be perfic im the same way. I drove the people farken crazy at circet city after i tryed 5 montors an fineley seltted for the sony i tryed to find shit wrong with it an dident.So i kept it what can i say its a great lcd.
 
The HX73 is as good as it gets. Excellent color, brightness, and sharpness. Go to Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, etc... I'm betting that, of all the screens on display, the Sony will be the one to jump out at you immediately.
 
Ahhh... bollocks. Oh well, I'll still get it for the three year zero dead pixel warranty here in Aus :)
 
It will jump out at you if the store has a real video feed into it and not soome junky low res picture like all the stores around me do.
 
Hi! I'm actually looking at the 19" models - hx93 and vp191. Any major differences to the 17" discussion? Also, doesn the hx93 swivel Portrait-Landscape? Can't seem to find documentation one way or the other (so probably doesn't!)

The HX93 has a higher contrast ratio (600:1) and brightness (450nits) but has a 25ms response time. Like the HX73 it lacks a swivel feature.

I've decided to go with the HX73 - I'll post here again when I get it and give my impressions. Although the viewsonic's swivel feature and price were attractive the dead pixel policy and general image quality were the things that in the end drew me to the Sony.

Has anyone seen them head to head on display?

Right, so it doesn't rotate between Portrait and Landscape, while the Viewsonic does. But the Contrast and Brightness seems to far surpass the Viewsonic.

Any Viewsonic fans out there who can sell me on the vp191?
