Hey guys,

After reading on your forums. I said what the hell and went and bought this monitor. So far so good. I got the silver one from best buy. Selling at 799.99 with a 100 dollar rebate. Not bad. It's great. No dead pixels or anything. I'm an LCD newbie and would like to ask people what are optimal settings for this monitor. If you have questions for me, then speak up :p. Luv the monitor.

had

1280 x 1024 resolution. refresh is default at 60Hz.
Contrast at about 75-80, brightness and backlighting at defaults.
Increase sharpness to at least 7-8. You'll need it.
this monitor has problems reproducing clear text.
Change your gamma setting (video card settings) to 2.3 or 2.4 and you'll get better blacks...but they won't be perfect.
Bought this display and a Samsung 193P to test. Samsung was the winner.

they monitor doesn't have problem displaying text ,you probably switched ON
cleartype that must be off when using this monitor.

The big problem with this monitor is that it's like a mirror.

These are the settings I use.

Backlight 0
Constrast 100
Brightness 40
Color Temp 6500k (I got tired of the cooler setting 9300k)
Gamma 2
Sharpness 5

For the person that said this LCD has a problem with text, I can assure you that it does not. Perhaps you were not using a DVI cable.

Anyway, the above settings is what I like. You may have to fiddle a bit to find a setting that you feel comfortable with.

when you are using your monitor ,you see yourself typing, right ?
only if you switch room lights off it's not reflecting ,right ?

No I do not see myself typing. The only time you can see some sort of a reflection is when the screen is completely black. Like I said in your thread, the reflectiveness has been blown out of proportion.

I stand by my TESTS of the SDM-HS94P.
I am in the business of testing equipment at the main R&D Lab at Research Atlanta.
If you can't see this machine side-by-side compared to another high-end monitor (in a retail store the monitors are displaying a VGA image duplicated thru a signal amplifier) then how can you "assure" anyone that the type is so clear? Compared to what?
Having obtained a PHD in engineering sciences I think I know the difference between a DVI and a VGA cable, thanks.
Cleartype was never used to test these monitors. Font smoothing was enabled though as it should be when using any LCD display.
If you want to take a minute and actually READ the full review, it is on the main Display forum http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=812744

lphatlanta,

I don't care where you work, or what you do. Save the ego trip for somewhere else.

In the process of finding a decent LCD/CRT I have gone through numerous displays, and have various monitors to compare to. Once you get off your lame high-horse and join the rest of us common-folk let us know.

Only pointing out the facts. No attitude here, sorry. I stated my business affiliation because we are in the business of testing for independent firms.

Sorry if my remarks go against your opinion, but that happens.
I had no idea you were spokes person for the "common folk".

If you get this upset over someone’s post then I hope for everyone's sake you don't own a semi-automatic weapon.

lphatlanta,

I have no problems with our opinions differing. Though you made it sound as if your opinion were a fact because of your occupation.

Oh, and I'm fine, but thank you for your concern. :)

Don't mind iphatlanta. He has got to be a spokesman for Dell or something. He has posted his same review on every single forum on the net regarding how Sony is beat by Dell, Samsung, etc etc...
Also dont mind mentorxxx, he thinks the Sony is a mirror which 98% of the population who owns the hs94p has stated the reflection is not any worse than your typical CRT. I personally believe the Sony is the best 19in lcd out at the moment.

I bought one of these monitors a few weeks ago and couldnt be happier, the reflection issue is not really a issue, you can see yourself in a CRT just as much as you can in this Sony. Dont let reviews put you off this is one hell of a sexy monitor :)

I'm still morally opposed to Sony.

BUT running on DVI I'd say its about the same as the 243T to me.

Neither is good enough to beat my circa 1991 17" viewsonic Trinitron CRT at anything though.

AND I can throw this thing down stairs and it will just dent the stairs.
