I received these as a gift for my birthday a few days ago after my old headphones crapped out (SteelSeries 5hv2), the system comes with a headphones and a decoder box that takes a 7.1 analog input and turns it into virtual surround sound. I mainly play BC2, with a few other games here and there. When I tried out BC2 for the first time with these things on I was really surprised that there actually was a huge difference in the ability to perceive the locations of different sounds, much better than the 5hv2 with bc2 set on headphones setting. My question is would it be possible to get the same effect of the decoder box with just a soundcard alone (virtual surround, compression), or would getting a soundcard enhance the effect? Also what setting should the audio be set to on BC2 for ideal surround sound (virtual)? Whats the difference between HiFi and Home Cinema?
