So I keep reading that this is the same panel that's in the Apple 23" HD Cinema Display and the HP L2335. But does anyone know if this is an "HD" lcd? The Apple seems to brag about this as a big selling point, but I can't find anything about it from HP or Sony. Why? Or are they HD monitors and just don't require the unecessary egotistical self-inflation that Apple is so prone to?

Anyone know? Anyone seen one of these lcds in person?

I have also read that this is the same panel as the Apple and HP 23" I don't know what Apple means by "HD" LCD. I ordered the Sony last weekend so I should be seeing it in person very soon. If there is anything specific you would like to know about it let me know. BTW Monitorsdirect has this monitor for $1579 shipped through the end of November.

Lucky you. I ordered mine on Sunday and it is not shipping until today :( . I won't get it until next week. This is my first order with Monitorsdirect and so far I'm not that impressed but I have heard good things about them so I'll give them a chance. Let me know what you think of your new monitor.
 
when apple says HD it just means that the resolution is high enough so that you can watch HD quality (1080i) resolution video on it.
 
Between the two I would go for the Apple. I would have bought the Apple but the Sony was almost $500 cheaper.
 
HD means High Definition as in HDTV. Which basically can have the following modes:

P=Progressive
i=Interlaced
720P=1280x720p
1080i=1920x1080i
1080p=1920x1080p

Perfect...this is the exact explanation I was looking for. :) But does anyone know if this monitor is 1080i or 1080p? How would I find out? I don't see anything in the specs about it besides the native 1920x1200 resolution.

In the UK all three are about the same price. The apple is the least versatile, although it does look the nicest :)

The HP is great b/c it has component inputs--(I think I 'm going to regret not having these 5 years down the road :( ). The apple is great b/c...well, b/c it's apple--they are the ones that started this HD LCD trend and have alway paved the way for others.

I would disagree and say that the Sony looks the nicest. I also feel that it's built a lil' better--not to say that the apple is a crappy build by any means! But I just love the stand and the sturdiness of the Sony.

However, if all 3 were the same price here in the states...then I probably wouldn've gone for the apple. But, I couldn't be happier w/the Sony's quality.

LCDs "native" mode is progressive since all pixels are always refreshed (think about your desktop; windows refreshes all pixels 60 times a second, not every other line). So it is 1080p but it can, of course, also display 1080i.
