Sony 19" SDM-HS94P Question

I noticed that the contrast ratio is only 500:1 whereas most lcd's range from 600-800:1

Is this difference very noticable for blacks and whites?

I have found that the Contrast Ratio spec on lcd's to be very misleading. I personally don't bother looking at this number. I think the only way to see how black the blacks are and how white the whites are is to actually see an lcd in person.

What is most importent then?

A higher contrast or a higher light "nit" ?

like,

Kontrast 700:1
Ljusstyrka 250 nit (cd/m2)
Or
Kontrast 500:1
Ljusstyrka 400 nit (cd/m2)

I`am only a CRT user so thats why i`am asking.

This monitor is the BEST 19" out at the moment .

GET IT ,if you find it ... there is no availability ... at least for the SDM-HS94PB i want to get :(

contrast is perfect ,colors are perfect .... don't worry at all .

i personaly almost "hate" sony monitors and i'm getting one ... i hope you
can understand how good this one is to change my mind so much ;)

I just cant decide between this one and the samsung 712N, both are on sale ending tomorrow.

as far as i know this one is better than samsung.

I was at bestbuy today... had the same dilemma- 712N or 94P. Got the 94P... have like 8 dead pixels, however after playing Call of Duty on it, i will definitely be getting the replacement and not the refund. No ghosting, superior quality, i couldnt get any kills because i was too caught up in how great the thing looks. Buy :)

could you please check the back of the monitor (or the manual) and tell us if it's TCO'03 certified ?

yes , but it doesn't support the pivot funcion (vp912b has a different type of base) .

so if you absolutely need the pivot function get the vp912b ,if you think you
won't use it many times get the sony .

forgot to tell you that they are both based on the same panel ,only that sony
has added a special coating and monitor looks better ,on the other hand
viesonic has a bigger and not good looking base ,but viewsonic base can move
up&down (not only tilt) and also supports pivot.

it's up to you to decide . I think i'll go for the sony .

Sony's SDM-HS94P is NOT the king of the hill.
How can you say it's "the best" when you don't even have it...
Check out my review under DISPLAYS comparing the Sony SDM-HS94P and the Samsung 193P.
Grabbed both these monitors and compared them side-by-side on my test machine with my buds here at Scientific Atlanta.
See how they faired...before you buy. :)

you are right on your review but :

1.I was talking about the european version that has 170/170 view & 16,77 colors

2.Due to the X-Black technology (x-brite in US version) you must NOT use
cleartype ... so if you had this on, it's normal text was better on samsung

3.I don't care about DVD and movies on PC ,so even if there is a problem this
it is not a problem for me.

4.There is a huge difference on games comparing 20ms to 12ms !!! Of course this
depends on the person .Some people might say they can play with 20 ms ... i don't .

Anyway , i hope to find the european version SDM-HS94PB soon so that i can tell
my personal opinion . Sony still has no availability for this monitor ,but they told
me it will be available in about one week (order directly from Sony Europe) .

Please tell me if you used cleartype or not .

Cu ;)
