Sometimes boots.. sometimes doesn't ?!?!?

so, this has happened twice in the past week..

i press teh power button.. it powers on. but it doesn't POST, and the screen just stays black.. nothing happens..


i have to turn it off. and try it again. and then it works.. what's going on??

I have A7N9X-E deluxe

2500+ barton at 3200+

Vcore: 1.75V

RAM 1 gig geil at 2.5-3-3-11

RAdeon 9800XT




any clues?!?!? damn it .. this friggin sucks!... i hope it's nothing serious

Post your full system specs. Are you getting any warning beeps? One thing comes to mind, but please post your full specs. Your PSU is not up to the task, yes it worked fine before but it may be dieing.

I"m getting no beeps.. when i press teh power you hear everything turn on.. Harddrives, Fans.. etc.. but nothing happens.. no Beep nothing. the screen stays black..

PSU = Vantec Ion.400W VAN-400B RT

Sound card = Audigy X gamer

HSF: thermal take silent boost

3 case fans

Two 80 gig WD800JB harddrives

Toshiba or hitachi DVD drive.. 16x

Sony CD writer. 52/24/52

a floppy drive.. and nexus fan controller with 3 temp probes.

i've had the power supply since the summer.. and i'm getting decent voltage readngs off the software that comes with the mobo... perhaps i should check with a Multimeter??

well at the moment the only PSU i have is a generic 400W PSU... and well.. i don't want to try that.. or should i?

can you guys give me a i guess.. percentage guess taht you think it's the PSU?? like are you 50% sure??? and such..

bleh.. i would like to swap PSU's not.. but i just don't have the time at the moment..

possible results:
(1) boots fine... other psu is faulty. rma it or buy another.

(2)nothing happens. generic psu is dead.

(3) generic psu thinks it's the 4th of july (BOOM!) trash it and try another.

(4) generic psu has same problem as name-brand. psu is not the problem.

let us know which it is.

though.. the whole no boot thing doesn't happen that often.. like i said.. it happened twice out of say 12 times turning it on during the week..

sounds like a faulty connector, actually. see how tight the ATX connector is.

One odd thing though, you say it sounds like everything is powering up fine, except video stays blank. Try reseating your graphix card. You may also want to push the voltage on the card up .1 volt.

I say 60% probably PSU, 20% vid card needs reseated or more voltage, 20% gremlins messing with you before finals.

ok.. soo i checked all power cables.. and then disconnected and reconected making sure everything was in all the way.. i guess we'll see if it happens again. now..

true..... i've seen that before...

well as i said. i haven't experienced the problem.. but like i said.. I need to boot it up more and more for the next two weeks or so.. then i can be sure it was loose connections.
