Lately I've noticed my Sub has been putting out a rather high (in loudness) hum. The only way to make it go away is to physically unplug the set from the outlet.

This is the speaker system i have:

Any ideas on why it would be causeing this? (If I'm not giving enough info, please say)

Also, if you recommend i replace them, please give a suggestion ($100 and under, kinda of limited).

It sounds like a connection is loose somewhere. Try unplugging everything and then plugging it back in. Also, with the sub on, jiggle the connector and see if it stops at all.

I had a similar problem to what your describing with an old Kenwood sub, and the problem was the input connector. If I jiggled it it would stop though.

hmm, well, messing around with it, I've discovered if i put a little weight on the back top of the sub the humming goes away, being down by it (under the desk) I can say its not the electronics, its something inside the sub.

Thing is, I'd RATHER NOT take it apart to find out what it is.

Then just put a book on the back and bee done with it!! :D

The only other solution would be to take it apart AFAIK though

Tinsel leads rubbing on the Cone/Spider? Dunno why a weight would help with that though..Must be something loose.

Sounds like it could be a loose ground. Applying pressure to the back could be reconnecting the ground or if the case is metal or conductive, simply touching it could make enough of a ground to eliminate the hum (your body acts as the ground) which would explain why applying pressure to the back makes the hum go away.
