So if these -bagadv can only use up to 8 threads, what happens when the "Gulftown" 6 core/12 thread cpu's come out?

I guess we will get a bump in PpD on the GPU side while folding a -bigadv. Since we will have 4 thread for the GPU's.

Will we have to fire up Linux to fully utilize the 12 threads for a -bigadv only rigs?

Just trying to plan ahead and think outloud!

Any thoughts?

That's a VM limitation.. not a -bigadv limitation. There are plenty of folks running -bigadv on 16 core boxen but they are doing it with native Linux.

Edit: Hopefully when -bigadv migrates to the A3 core, we will be able to run them natively on Windows.
 
Since we don't know when the -bigadv will migrate to the A3 core, I better start learning Linux just in case. Since I know NOTHING about it.
 
There isn't much to learn about Linux :D

Install like windows. Install F@H (finstall script makes it easy). Set as service. Reboot and leave alone :D :D

If you ask people will help you out. I received a lot of assistance from Alan and Smoke when I was learning Linux. What I would do with a 12 thread capable system is run the EVGA VM using 8 cores with a -bigadv client, and then install a SMP2 (A3) client with 3 or 4 threads in Windows 7. You could also run GPU clients if you properly assign affinities/priorities. It might be a little tricky to juggle everything but someone will find the most efficient configuration.
