i just upgraded my comp from

msi neo2 plat
amd3500+
6800gt agp
400w psu
1g corsair xms pro

to a 7800 gtx,bfg tech dual 12v 600w psu, and a asus a8n sli premium. Now my comp is laggy after the upgrade programs take 10s just to open and my cpu usage jumps over 60% on easy tasks i barly scored over 8000 in 3dmark05 in bf2 i can barly play at high settings, wow gets choppy at high settings and cs:s also very choppy my old setup seemed like it performed better then my new stuff does which doesnt seem right ive installed the new chipset drivers, video drivers, and flashed to the new bios i just dont know what is wrong im very disapointed in the performance

Did you format/reinstall windows or just shove the new parts in and install drivers over the old ones?

i formatted and did a fresh windows xp install

amp ratings are

+3.3@30A
+5V@50A
+12v1@20A
+12v2@20A-12V@1.0A
+5VSB@2.5A

Most of the time I've seen this, its because the Graphics card is in the wrong PCIe 16x slot. Since you have an SLi Board make sure that your card is in the correct slot!

wish it was that easy nope just checked its in the right slot(blue pci-ex16 slot used for graphics card in single card mode) also checked to make sure its not on sli mode which its not

Run Memtest86, maybe you have some bad RAM. also, I know that some driver problems can cause this problem as well. ALL you drivers are belong to you? or are they belong to error?
sorry, I don't know why I typed that (just finished watching the all your base are belong to us video lol), are all your drivers ok? check device manager and see if there any hardware has some driver problems.

did you install your drivers for your mobo? Many people overlook this and end up having problems like the ones you're describing.

moving my audigy 2 zs down 2 pci slots seemed to give a performance gain wonder why

i just checked device manager and yup my sound card was sharing the same irq as my graphics card even after i moved it but now i have my graphics card on its own irq so everything should be better thanks for the help guys :)

still not getting great performance tryed playing bf2 on high settings the game would slow down everytime i moved or shot, i think its my hard drive not being able to read fast enough or my ram is dieing on me

Make sure the sound card drivers are up to date. I think its a conflict with the SC, cause you did say it happens to slow down when sound is suppossed to happen like firing?

Someone had suggested running Memtest86+....?? How'd that turn out...??

Good Luck - B.B.S.

just did memtest came up with no errors i just installed the latest audigy drivers so maby that will help i really think it is my harddrive though considering its working as fast as it can when im playing seems like its trying to keep up with everything else

still getting shitty fps after new audigy drivers is there anyway my gpu is using standard 2d core clock instead of performance 3d o well guess its time to call in a computer tech

I am a tech so noooo...don't call.
Start from scratch:
Install all new drivers
Sound
Chip-set
Video
Etc.
Then run a video test to see your framerate.

ive done that twice so far nothing has changed im still going with my hard drive as being the reason since it is not sata

Bust out your mannal and read about your bios...cause thats the only other thing I could think of over the net to try without seeing it.
Memory timings/OC/Divider/Etc...
