i'm currently putting together 4 computers, all supposed to house a Radeon MSI 9800pro 128MB. ok, i set the first computer up, just for the fun of it run MSI life-BIOS for the vid-card, and see the program doesn't recognize my card. well, i thought, maybe too old, wrong revision or whatever - strange though, as the MSI app gives me an error saying that this program will only work on MSI cards.
i put together the second rig and to my surprise this time it asks to update both the BIOS as well as the driver of my grafics adapter. now i look at all four cards more closely and check the PCI-IDs: two of the cards have 4e48 / 4e68 for secondary and are listed to be 9800pros here. the remaining two, however, have a PCI-ID of 4e49 / 4e69, which according to this listing is a r350 9800. now i look at the back of all cards: all of them have two stickers on the back, one almost squarish and one long and thin one running alongside the card. all four of them have RX9800PRO written on the long one, however, the two with the strange PCI-ID clearly have written "MSI Radeon 9800 128MB made in China" on the square one, whereas the other two (with the correct PCI-ID) have "MSI Radeon 9800PRO 128MB" in exactly the same spot.
what's this supposed to mean? fakes? right now i feel like sending them back immediately, but thought i'd check with the pros first, not to make a mistake on my part. any advice is greatly appreciated.
