Has anyone noticed that most cases have some sort of fan grill where the hard drive bay is. The grill seems to imply a fan should go there to pull air from the front of the case to the hard drives. What doesn't make sense is that there's no way to mount a fan there with normal screws. Some cases don't even have the holes where the screws should be.

Is there some sort of special mount that I'm missing?

Because right now it all seems like a tease. :p

It's probably a structural support with holes punched through as to not impede airflow entirely.

Actually looking farther into it I found that one of my cases has a small retention mechanism to hold the fan. But I've only seen it on this case...

And if grill is just there to not impede airflow entirely, why would they make it into the shape for an 80mm fan?

Keeps mice and snakes out.

The idea is the rear fan pulls cool air through the front grill behind the fascia (front panel). If the fascia does not have vents you will find the bottom end of the fascia is open or has a large opening, both to grasp and pull the fascia off and to allow air to enter.

The ATX computer standard covers the airflow design. Intel has thermal recommendations as well.

Pretty crappy tho, if there is not a snap in fan holder, there should be holes for an (optional) front fan.

First thing I do is get the aviation snips and cut the grill out.
