do the sides go outside of the square around the cpu socket ?

im not worried about it getting in the way of the northbridge, just the other way as i have a huge heatsink that goes over where the i/o plate is.
 
yeah the sides go over the socket.. how far i cant remember.. just look up the dimensions of the heatsink.. find out how wide it is.. then compare it to your system.. for example if its 100mm wide then its 50mm from the center of the heatsink in each direct.. thus you can match it up with a ruler 50mm from the center of the heatsink to give you an idea of how much it will hang over the actual socket..

note: i have no clue exactly how wide it is so dont use my random numbers as the actual measurement.. the dimensions should be on newegg..

I have 1 on an Asus P6T Deluxe V2. I'd say it's about twice as wide as the CPU socket. It does not block the the 1st memory slot. Let me know if you want a pic.
