When i try and raise my FSB It shows my PCI frequency go up in mhz, along with my ram frequency. Is this ok? I'm on a p3 766 mhz so will OC'ing to past 900 mhz(5.5 x 166) with 166mhz ram frequency, and 41.5 mhz PCI frequency harm me? My cpu frequency would be 913.0 MHZ from original 766.

What is pci frequency and ram frequency?

Wow, scary adventure, i'm sweating quite a bit here. I oc'ed to 140 and it appeared cool, so i proceeded bit by bit, and at that point i hit 155. The program and windows all totally froze, and i figured i had done something HORRIBLE, so i shut down the comp, quickly took off the side of my case and got some of the dust out, waited a while, and rebooted. It appears that the program underclocked by itself when it sensed the problem(kickass), i was running around 904 MHZ on a 766 mhz processor. Do you guys think i did any damage? :(

Not likely.

Running the PCI bus at speeds higher than stock (33 MHz) is asking for trouble, but unfortunately you don't have much of a choice. It's been only a couple of years that we've had the luxury of independently controlled PCI bus frequencies that do not necessarily scale with FSB frequency increases.

Anyways, you should be careful when running the PCI bus at higher than 40 MHz. Things like this lead to lockups and hard drive corruption, so be sure that you do extensive testing before settling on a stable FSB frequency.

edit:

What is PCI frequency? It's the frequency at which PCI devices synchronize with when doing various operations. PCI devices include the devices in your PCI slots, if any, and a variety of systems on your motherboard. In older platforms like the Pentium III, the IDE bus (hard drives and CD/DVD drives), USB, IEEE-1394, any networking devices, any onboard sound, etc. are run from the PCI bus.

What is RAM frequency? It's the frequency at which the RAM is rated to be accessed by the CPU through your motherboard's chipset. PC100 RAM is rated to be accessed by a 100 MHz FSB frequency, while PC133 is rated up to 133 MHz. I'm simplifying, to a degree, but this is the general idea. When you overclock, your RAM frequency goes up, so you should try to find RAM that is rated to handle the increased FSB frequencies you will try to reach. For this purpose, PC150 and other RAM was created, so that raising the FSB frequency will not stress the capabilities of the RAM and cause lockups and glitches.

This program is great, once the PCI frequency gets past 40 MHZ it brings it back down to 30 to start, so ATM i'm running 802.9 MHZ(5.5 x 146.0), on a 733 mhz processor. Like a 70 MHZ OC, not the greatest, but it gives me the extra 2-3 fps in CS, which i enjoy. With this, my ram frequency is at 36.5 MHZ, but when i raise my fsb to around 155, with 38.5 Ram Frequency i get tons of freezeups, so i think i'll stay at this for now.

Also: Very odd, as i raise the fsb the temps go down. I was running 39 idle, now i'm running 32 idle. Thats just 1337 ;)
