i have a 80 gb and a 40 gb and i want to raid them is there anything specific i should kno before i do so that i didnt allready kno ... can a raid go wrong or anything

its not good to raid 2 drives that are not the same size BTW you would olny get 80 gigs of space

I don't know too much about raid, but i think you'll lose 40 gigs of capacity if you do that.

What are you going to do with the raid? stripe for performance or mirror for backup?

If you raid them you get the minimum features of each drive. It would work but you'd likely lose a lot of HD space.

One thing you might try however is setting them up as dynamic disks. Then you could use 40GB of each for a RAID0 setup and use the remaining 40GB on the large drive as a simple partition. Save your space and still get a performance boost. Setting it up would be fairly straight forward as well.

how would i go bout doin that ... and i know i would lose alot of space actually it would be my first raid and i wanted to try it out before i bought matching drives
