Hey guys, i've been watching LCD screens for a while, I'm relatively new to them (don't know them as well as CRT's) and I had a few general questions about their resolutions and refresh rates. I currently have a Sony Trinitron 19" CRT right now by the way.
Resolutions: Ever since I heard that LCD's have an 'native resolution' I was curious about that and decided to check into it more. What I want to know is, well, I know that LCD's depending on their size have different native resolutions. Most 19" are 1280x1024. What i'm curious about is like the CRT which can switch freely between all res's, can the LCD switch and use other res's too? Like when playing games, if you want to go up to 1600x1200, or down to 1024x768, is that possible to play the game like that with LCD's?
Refresh rates: I've notice on some of the LCD's I've been on the refresh rates have only been 60hz and 75hz. Now on the CRT's it goes from 60hz up to 160-180hz I think. Since LCD operate differently than CRT's, only updating the part of the screen that needs to be updated instead of scanning the whole screen repeatedly. Will a 60hz refresh rate on an LCD hurt your eyes like on a CRT? if not, than why do they have more than one refresh rate on the LCD screen, why can you go up to 75hz?
Sorry if those questions are a bit n00bish, but i'm trying to improve my knowledge on these things. So, can you help me out?

while I'm at it, isn't there different versions or models of LCD screens. Like the OLED and the SED. What are the current ones and what's the difference between them?
