I know this is [H] and most of you have 7950's or 70's, but I'd like to dedicate this to my new Gigabyte 7870OC that I recently purchased for a mere $200 (after tax and $20 rebate) from my local Microcenter's "open box" sales.I know this is [H] and most of you have 7950's or 70's, but I'd like to dedicate this to my new Gigabyte 7870OC that I recently purchased for a mere $200 (after tax and $20 rebate) from my local Microcenter's "open box" sales.

This card replaced an oldie, but goodie, Galaxy GTX460 786MB. This has been a great card, but BF3 has made it sweat profusely, and was limiting my enjoyment of the BF3 graphics...:( So I pulled the trigger. $200 is a sweat spot my me when it comes to Video cards.

Without further a due, here is the card itself (in my 10+ yrd old mid ATX case):

Here are some benches with the following system specs:

CPU: i5-3570k @4.5GHz
Mobo: Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H
RAM: Crusial BallisticX 12800 2x4GB
Couple WD Black 1TB HDD's

The card is OC'ed out of the box to 1100MHz GPU and 1200MHz Memory. I was able to crank it up to 1200MHz/1400MHz. I'm gonna keep on pushing, but for now I'm quite happy with the results:

So come on, show them off... Heck, throw in 7850's if you got 'em....

The 7870 is one of the best "bang for your buck" cards out there. Very nice pickup for 2 bills!

Never knew rebates worked on Open Box items -- thats pretty cool.

I was torn between a 7870 and 7950 until that ebay 20% cashback deal popped up, and I got a 7950 Vapor-X for $240 AR :)

I was lazy, just ran 11. Will add more when I feel like testing :p

Edit: CPU was at 4.8ghz

^ NICE!

Like I said, I'll keep on pushing mine as well... The memory changes definitely don't net as much improvement as GPU, so I don't think I'm gonna mess with that. I'll just baby-notch the GPU in 5MHz increments, see where that get's me...

I've found that past about 1200mhz on the core you don't see much in return. I can bench up to 1300mhz with 1.3v but it doesn't improve my scores enough to justify it really.

I agree on the memory, doesn't net much at all.

OP for 200 bucks you got a very good deal. congrats. But a Sapphire HD 7950 boost available for 280 bucks after rebate with 3 free games is even better value for money. especially considering those 3 games are very well reviewed.

^ sweet deal, but I'm definitely the "200 dalla make me holla" kinda guy...;)
In fact, I was gawking a Gigabyte 7950 for $300 (+ tax) at first, but then I figured most of the games I play (besides for BF3) are still doing just fine on my 460. Was gonna use the $100 difference on SSD... Well, I get the card home and start overclocking, and the thing was unstable as Gary Busey on meth... I figured it must of been the PS flaking out on me. After all, it was an 8yr old Raidmax 630W. Well come to find out, it has two 12v rails one of them rated at 18A, the other 20A... Went back to Microcenter, got a OCZ 800W with 62A 12V rail for $54 out the door... Got my stability back, and was even able to OC my i5 another 300MHz from 4.2 to 4.5GHz... So, there goes that money...;)

Also 7870 gigabyte oc owner. It is fantastic gpu. Quiet, cool and puts all games 1080p hands down.
Witcher ,metro (without dof), crysis2, You name it.

Best card I ever had.

Even when 8800 cards revolutionized the marked and I gort a 320gts back then, some games had trouble.
And no drivers issues so far. Guess its a good time to be amd user

I like my XFX 7870 Black edition. It's stock for now. I paid $219.00 AR ($30.00 Visa Gift Card) w/ free shipping from NG. Sold my copy of FayCry 3 for $30.00, so I ended up paying $189.00! I don't play really intense GPU type of games. Mainly Heroes of Might & magic V & VI & Starcarft. I sold my Gigabuye 6870 for $80.00 & I think it's a decent upgrade all-in-all. It will hold over ystem aging system for @ least another 12 months or so.

AMD really kicked ass in the sub-$200 range this gen. 7770, 7850 and 7870 are all amazing cards. Though I will say, if you want to spend any more than $200, go Nvidia.

throw that 460 back in the mix for some Physx fun!

Was actually wondering about that... BF3 is my primary game of choice now, and it has quite a few "physics" effects, especially with explosions, and building damage... I was wondering if all the physics calculations would be off-loaded onto the 460, or just some...?

OT: I did not think you could mix-n-match amd/NV for physx action... did sumtin' change recently?
