Some Hotmail Users Report Missing e-mails

It’s an occurrence most Hotmail users would find useful and not that much of a problem. Tell that to the members who posted 467 pages on the Microsoft forum, complaining of disappearing stored e-mails.

Windows Live support technicians have said in numerous threads that the Hotmail team is aware of the problem and working on a fix.

I don't seem to have lost anything on either of 2 accounts, but this isn't a new development. I remember this happening a few years back, lost a shit ton of emails, some stuff actually (somewhat) important.... Never got any of it back. I wouldn't expect miracles.

Never had a problem with GMail and I've been a user since the early Beta. I had at one time been a Hotmail user but had many problems with emails never arriving and/or disappearing. It's hard to trust an email service after that.

I'd like to take this opportunity to state I started my Hotmail account in August 1996 and my address is my name -- and I have a pretty common name. So take that all you [myname]###@hotmail.coms, whoever you may be. Just wished I would have jumped on ChunkyLover53 early...

Considering the amount of junk distributions I've picked up in 14 1/2 years, the probability of me missing a real e-mail is pretty low.

This is a prime example of why you always set up some kind of email backup. Using either outlook to download mails, outlook express is better then nothing, thunderbird heck even another freemail to capture copies.

Honestly I have little sympathy for people who lose their email if they haven't made any attempt to back it up. There are simply too many options available. That said, I only use hotmail as a backup these days even though I have one of the original accounts as well. It simply works with outlook too badly for me to consider using it as a main account. Which is rather sad when you consider it is a MS product. Anyone who uses outlook connector understands the hate I have for that massive piece of crap software. Why hotmail can't simply work as an imap like every bloody thing else is beyond me.

September 1996 here. I still use my hotmail as well as gmail and aol mail, but my hotmail service has been uninterrupted for 14 years. It's a pretty decent service by any measure.

If you have a 4 or 5 digit Hotmail password throw your hands up! But not too quickly, grandpa. You'll sprain something.
