I just got a q6600 on abit ip35 pro, my first build ever. I installed a tuniq tower on it and the only OCing ive done is FSB 333 to run the quad at 3ghz. Temps seem fine but its a bit weird to me maybe someone can help. Sometimes when I boot up temps will be like this: Core 0: 27 Core 1: 21 Core 2: 27 Core 3: 19 so is like core 0 and 2 are aboutr the same and 1 and 3 are about the same.

Now this is where it gets weird, sometimes after a reboot the temps seem to be about the same but switch cores, for instace core 0 and 1 will be 27 and core 2 and 3 will be 21, and other times its core 0 and 3 will be 27 and cores 1 and 2 will be 21, when loaded on prime 95 for 1 hour+ the temps dont seem to even out, they just seem to keep the same distance about 8-10c between them, any help or info would be appreciated, thanks.

I have the same problem. Only for me its the same cores over and over again. I wouldnt worry about it. as long as the temps stay in the safety zones your fine. Ive experienced this on two different quad cores, and even used different heatsinks and reseated, I think its just the way they are build that leads to this, I mean, you have 4 processor cores in teh same space where 1 used to be :D

Also, vista has some smart logic laod balancing thing, where it will switch different threads to different processor cores. It could be that vista is loading different cores at different times when you are doing certain things.

I am running windows XP not vista, I have read alot about peoples cores being difft temps, but in every case ive read about its the same cores, why would mine be changing on reboots? I mean if the heatsink is not on good it should always be the same two that are higher right?

I am in no doubt that the same 2 cores are always higher.
This will be down to the monitoring software.

This is yesterday vs today, just a reboot inbetween. It really doesnt make sense to me at all. Almost makes me wonder if something is off?

Wow finally someone with the same problem, I took the MB back out today reapplied MX-2 and reseated the tuniq, put it all back together and nothing has changed, I really dont know what else to do or even if I should worry about it.

Well the main thing I am worried about is the temps, with such a variance im not sure which one to trust if I decide to OC more, at idle atleast 1 sometimes 2 of the cores shows a temp below Ambient, which I know is impossible, the other 2 cores show about 5-6 c above ambient. I just hope those 2 are right and I can use those as my temp guide for overclocking.

It will ease your conscience to read up on others experiences with intels CPUs and temp measurements.
The sensors are NOT guaranteed to tell you the correct temp.
They are only calibrated to give the correct throttling temp.
Many sensors give way off readings, some are even stuck.

The only thing you need worry about is whether you use too high voltage and try to remain 20C or below the throttling temp.
You dont need to remain 20C below if you really want to get a high overclock but its a good safety margin.
To get the degrees C to throttling temp, use Realtemp or Coretemp to measure the temps.
Configure them to "show delta to Tj max" and now the reported temps will be how many degrees C you have left to go before throttling will start.
