I'm new to the water cooling scene. I've been posting around the hardware forums, and I've gotten some great advice some you guys. I'm building a new machine soon, and at first I was going to order a black Xaser III and replace all the fans with Tornados. Then I was going to buy 2 fan controllers so I could control all the tornados. But, as of late I've decided to go the water cooling route.

This will be my first water cooling build, and I was just looking for some advice as to what case and kit to buy. I was looking at a couple kits (links below) earlier, and, I'm just not sure which one to get. I don't know which case is best used for WC.

Specs of new computer:

Intel D865GBFLK mobo.
P4 3.2C ghz.
2gb GEIL DDR 400 Dual Channel ram.
2 200gb SATA Seagate Barracudas.
Thermaltake Silent Purepower 480 watt.
ATI Radeon x800 pro.

I don't plan on doing any overclocking right away, but, it's something I'd like to get into eventually. But yea, I'd just like to know (if any) what kits perform very well. And maybe what case I should order.

i'm sorry, but spare yourself some cash and don't buy from FrozenCPU...i looked at all the kits...a wowie, they are freakin expensive...get it from either dangerden (www.dangerden.com) or d-tek (www.dtekcustoms.com)...

I would suggest:

D-Tek WhiteWater or Danger Den RBX
D-Tek Unpainted Pro 120 Heatercore or Heatercore (the $29.99 one)
Eheim 1250 (dtek) or DD Liang 12v
D-Tek Bay Res or DD Poly Res
And whatever tubing and clamps you want, etc...and if you want a GPU block, get the Maze4

not sure about price...but its a lot better than those kits!

Get something directly from Dangerden (www.dangerden.com) rather than FrozenCPU or someplace else. I would look at a TDX block for the CPU over the RBX (better, and less messing around with the extra outlet on the RBX), a Liang (D4) 12v pump (Hydor or Eheim if you want something cheaper), a heatercore or BlackIce Xtreme for a radiator, and some misc. things like hoseclamps, water additive, etc...

A swiftech kit is also good.

On another note, why did you choose the Intel motherboard? They blow hardcore, and you can't overclock them. You can get great boards from companies like Abit, Asus, MSI, etc... for cheap that outperform intel boards, plus they give you a shitload of overclocking capabilities. Just wondering...

I just bought a bunch of WC parts from http://www.voyeurmods.com/ and you should check them out for everything but the heatercore. IMO they had the best prices for most of the stuff I ordered. Just not the Heatercore. They also shipped the entire order the next day and shipping was less than 10.00. If you have room for it get This core from 2cool on our forums for 50.00 shipped with two 120mm fans

i do like the clearflex/clamps deal, and the RBX is only $45, but I configured it and it was the same price as the stuff I got, not including shipping!

Eh, well, I did also get mine from 3 differenct places, so the ship dates were all different...but oh well!
 
Ya I should have said the most money you save is on shipping! Dangerden is a great all in one place to order from but the reason I went with voyeurmods is they also had the Polarflo tt vga block I needed for me 6800.

You could put 2 WC systems in taht big box. My case is super small in comparison, the rad is going on top but everything else fits easy.
 
I just want it nice and clean on the inside. That's why I want a bigger than average case, I think cables and wires look better when they're stretched out, not curled all up.

I'm slowly putting together a custom kit from several websites. Just a couple questions I've got.

Does the reservoir have to be higher than the pump, or vice versa?

And what else do I need besides pump, radiator, tubes, reservoir, blocks, liquid? I know there are some things I'm missing. As I said, this is my first time actually seriously considering a WC system, so, I wanna know as much as I can.

the res doesn't hafta be higher than the pump because the force of the pump pushing will move it through...but its always a good idea to put the res higher...anyway, people usually get the 5.25" bay res or a "bong" res, and the pump usually goes at the bottom of the case.

Umm...the one thing I did see missing was clamps and a fan for the radiator...you might wanna look into a relay switch which allows the pump to be turned on with the computer...or you could just leave it on all the time.

You know, I finally got out a tape measurer and measured my case and some of the cases I was looking at, and they aren't that big...the CM Stacker is the only one that truly is much bigger than my current case. But my current case is a POS, how do u like ur stacker? worth the $200?

EDIT: One more thing I noticed that you missed was some sort of "anti-bacterial" such as zerex or waterwetter...i would go with zerex, its cheap and it works.

It's what I use (PC-75B)........Little River WW CPU block, Swifty MCW50 GPU block, Eheim 1250 pump, custom 12" long 2" diameter acrylic res, Dtek heatercore w/shroud & 120mm fan all inside the thing, and there's still plenty of space. Only trick was I had to cut the front of the case in order to open a hole big enough for the heatercore.

The res stands upright at the back of the case, right next to where the expansion cards get screwed in. Bottom barb runs into inlet of the 1250, which is about halfway towards the front of the case. That goes into the heatercore, which is sideways with the inlet side towards the back of the case. That goes into the inlet of the White Whater, whose outlest branch together and go into the MCW650. The MCW50 goes back into the res. Nice, simple, and it works. My temps are a bit on the higher side (averages 40-42C, partly due to Abit's poor reporting of CPU temp, partly due to a second story room with poor ventilation), but my loads generally max out at 45-466C.

So yeah....that case would be just fine. You could also look at the aforementioned CM Stacker....

Um...I may very well be wrong wrong, but I thought Zerex/Water Wetter were coolants, rather than anti-bacterials. I remember reading here that a number of people recommended the use of a few drops of betadine for the anti-bacterial part....

Not currently, at leas not since I switched from an external 4" diameter res to the 2" diameter in-case, but when I get home I can snap a few pics and post them no problem......
 
I'm not exactly very good with a camera, but here it is....
