Wow, one of the developers has just announced that a new version of Core 14 has been released and it fixes all the problems associated with mismatched shader counts and mismatched card generations.

A new Nvidia Core_14 (v1.26) has been posted. This build includes a fix that addresses problems people were having on multi-GPU systems with mismatched cards. Note that this does not include any checkpointing changes (as included in Core_11 v1.31). This should solve the problems people have had running FAH core 14 with mismatched cards - both mismatched shader counts and mismatched card generations should work now.

To update an existing folding system, you can stop the client, delete FahCore_14.exe and restart the client. The new version will be downloaded the next time a core 14 WU needs to be processed.

and for those of you, like me, who missed it last month, there is also an experimental Core 11 available for testing as well. However, this is still in testing and requires a manual download. Almost all NVIDIA projects use either Core 11 or Core 14 so applying both of these new versions should allow you to run any combination of NVIDIA cards regardless of manufacturer and/or shader counts.

The latest core is available at http://www.stanford.edu/~friedrim/FahCore_11.exe; the version id is v1.31. In addition to the changes mentioned in this thread, this core includes a fix that addresses problems people were having on multi-GPU systems with mismatched cards. It also includes updates to the checkpointing logic to prevent checkpoint files that are not removed from being reused on a different work unit.

Note from moderator: because of the checkpoint change, you'll want to replace FahCore_11 BETWEEN WUs since there is a high probabilty that you'll loose the work you've done on the current WU.

Hmm, no good for me, but I k ow this will help out a bunch here, good find!

This new Core_11 gives benefits to ATI cards as well? Or just NVidia?

I believe it is just NVIDIA as it was posted in the NVIDIA section on Folding Forums. It was primarily in response to overheating issues on large protein WUs and some of the other tweaks for mismatched GPUs were worked in as well.

Well, Core_14 is exclusively for NVidia GPUs, but Core_11 is for both. So I would have thought that if Core_11 was being updated, then that would affect ATI users too.

I edited my post above. There were some overheating issues NVIDIA users were experiencing and this current experimental Core_11 was issued to address these problems. Again, it's not an official update like Core_14 is, and is still very experimental. I'll ask on FF for you though as now I am curious.

Ah. So it's addresses just NVidia-specific issues? Makes a little bit more sense now (though I am kind of disappointed)

Hopefully this SOB fixes the frickin' EUE/unstable machine nonsense.

Thanks for the news update. :)

Mr. Pendantic: Although they share the same name, I have been able to confirm that the two Core_11's are indeed different and ATI and NV do not share the same core file. Name is the same, cores are indeed different.
