I noticed a lot of people like to use sketchup models. But does anyone have any solidworks files to use? Ive been a designer using solidworks for 3 years now. About 6 total years using cad applications. Im having trouble finding solidworks models to use though in case designing. Any other solidworks users have some models or know of good places to get them?

I had the same problem trying to do the work in autocad, i found the easist thing to do was copy each model into autocad by hand. made alot of use of the measurments givin in sketchup

thats not a bad idea. i guess i could use sketchup to get all the dimensions, then just re-draw it in solidworks. I wish i could just convert it all though.

god its about time alright here are my solid works doings with watercooled PC's

s_mac.home.comcast.net

I also have the files i think some where around here.

From what I have learned about solidworks and production is that by the time ur done building it your self you could of had a acrylic company make the whole thing for you or if your doing steel then i am not sure if u can find companys that can do that.

Not bad, im looking for actual components though. motherboards, hard drives and so on.

where do you get sketchup programs?... for the trial version?, and the full version?... also, how much does it cost?

www.sketchup.com

There is a trial version, that appears fully functional
but it's time limited.

Unfortunately it's $475.

Great program though, since this thread
I downloaded it and started playing with it.
Very nice, very easy.

Im sorry wayne, i have to do this to you! its for your own good:
AutoCad 2005: $3,470.00
SolidWorks: $3,995.00
3d Studio Max: $3,495.00

Prices quoted are from quick searches of products website and are for a single user licence for the basic package

3d CAD programs are NOT cheep. luckly, for me, im a student and have access to most of them pretty regularly

yeah i learned how to use them in highschool, wish i still had access to them  . Unfortunatly I never used them for pcs, mainly mechanical blueprinting.

JEEVES

I grabbed Autodesk Inventor 7 for something like $100 from HS and it was good.

I use solidworks for free since i work with it on a daily basis. Our company has a subcription program too so we always get the new version sent to us as soon as its released. Whats even nicer is that since i use it at least 80% of the time at work im legally allowed to have a copy installed at home.

heh... ever see $20,000 programs for cnc machines?

Mazacam, or stuff for Allen-Bradley? (Trying to remember...)

Some of those proggies can be very pricey...

Wayne: We just upgraded to Inventor 8 at my job from Mechanical Desktop 3, cost nearly $3500 with support contract for one seat  . Our engy almost did a Snoopy Dance when the package came in... ;)
