McMaster-Carr sells sheets of pure Teflon. They sell a 12" x 12" x 0.25"sheet for $52.79.

I'm tempted to buy one and give it a try.

i am extremely interested in ho wthis would work. i was just about to buy a func 1030.
 
McMaster also sells the UMHW tape, kinda like Mouse Skates. I bought a roll and, oh my. I have the Func pad that alienware gave me a long time ago (before they sold out their ideals). It just glides... You want to go to page 3197. 1/2" wide is the right width for mouse feet, and the thicker tape you get, the longer it will last between having to change it.

The tape is signicantly cheaper than the Teflon pad, particularly if you already have a good mouse pad.

I'm concerned with how well this teflon sheet will resist wear. Since the Teflon mouse feet wear out, I think that this sheet will wear out as well.

Although, if you combine the teflon tape with the teflon pad, it might last longer than a Ratpad.
 
teflon wears down from excessive friction and presuure concentrated at the four ( usually four) feet located at the bottom of your mouse. that friction yet small in nature is caused from the teflon interacting with the glass or other surface of your mousepad. given the friction resistant properties of teflon i would assume the a teflon-teflon interaction would cause even less friction , resulting in less wear on the surfaces. but having both surfaces as teflon then the wear would prolly be distributed evenly between the teflon tape/mousefeet and the matt itself .
therfore id assume that the matt would eventually wear out but not any faster than a func surface or the slick coating covering most glass pads. but even when it wears down its made of solid teflon so it will stay slippery until you wear a hole in the pad itself, but you wouldnt have to worr y about it for quite awhile. so it sound like a good idea to me, i might try it
another thing i am interested in is the clorox toilet bowl cleaner w/ teflon surface protecter. i would bet that it would restore glass pads that have had the slick topcoat worn off

I just got a func pad and also picked up some Liquid. MY GOD my mouse feels like it's on ice. Just pushing my keyboard/mouse draw in causes it to slide right off the pad. This is awesome.
 
Or you could just put it on ice... that'd work too. :rolleyes: sorry, spending $50 on a mousepad is a little over the top...

ive got a ratpad gs and i put the teflon tape on the bottom of my mx900, it glides so nice, but the rough surface of the ratpad is somewhat wearing down the skates too quickly, any suggestions?
 
any ideas of how i can get my ratpad to stick better to my desk without putting down tape, or glue?

Wal-mart (or the equivalent hardware store) sells this toolbox drawer liner stuff made of rubber it looks almost like mesh works perfectly and comes in multiple colors blue,white, green, red, black. A roll of like 3' runs a few bucks. Actually comes in handy for a lot of stuff. Just cut to fit your pad and set it on top of it the rubber grips it perfectly.
