I have been carrying a daytimer for years now. I like always having it with me as a place to jot down notes, requests I get from people, etc.

It seems like there should be a better way. I'm thinking of a solution where I can update it through my smartphone and/or my laptop.

Here are some thoughts I had about what I'm looking for:
1) Based on a calendar. I'm not just looking for a notepad but something where I can go back day by day and see what was added on what day. I suppose if it just logged the date/time of the entry it would be fine but more closely replicating my daytimer would be preferred.

2) Able to view/update from my smartphone and laptop. Smartphone for quick notes, etc laptop for more in depth notes

3) Searchable - I would like to search for a phrase and find it. This would be a nice upgrade from my daytimer as today I have to search the old fashioned way....paging through old daytimers.

4) Secure - If it's something web based, then it would need to be password protected or somehow secured.

Let me know what you guys would recommend.

Have you looked at Google Calendar? I think it does most of what you are looking for, and there are Android apps that add functionality to Google Calendar. I would check it out to confirm for you but I'm on the equivalent of a dial up connection right now.

I'd recommend OneNote. They recently released an Android app.

It should record the date and time of each note, and it can be synced online across your phone, laptop, etc.
