Software To Test New PC

Hi,

I just bought a new PC and would like a program to really test it to make sure all the hardware is functioning properly - CPU, memory, video card, motherboard, etc.

Can anyone please suggest some software (freeware preferably) to fully test my new hardware?

5 minutes of Google-ing would give you this list. However, if there's a specific task that you will be routinely doing that is hardware intensive, then maybe I or the other board members could provide a narrowed list of choices.

PC Wizard 2008 is a good free tool to use to benchmark everything. It also shows your hardware in comparison to others.

5 minutes of Google-ing gives 10 million choices. I asked here to find out what might be the best couple of programs to use. You gave me a list of 4 and I will google those specifically to check them out, although I'm not looking for a benchmark program but rather a program to fully test all the system components to make sure they are working properly.

Ultimate Bood CD for testing the hard drives - it has all the manufacturer diagnostics. Has memtest as well (use version 1.70, its newer).

You can get a lot of free software tools - go to majorgeeks.com and look under diagnostics. Should find something for almost every component there.

And you asked for the full list. If you were looking for a more refined list, then you should provide more refined requirements. A good start would be listing ALL components you have, makes, models... instead of listing a few generic names and an "etc."

I didn't submit PC Mark or 3D Mark under the guidelines of saying your computer is ___ good if it scores a ___ or higher. I submitted them because they will stress different piece(s) of the hardware. So if the tests they run absolutely hoses your machine, you know you may have problems somewhere.


Fact of the matter is that there is no ONE application that can test EVERY piece of hardware that you could possibly put in your rig. There are many, many focused applications that test various pieces of hardware working with drivers and the operating system.
