I recently tried out the ceedo software for usb flash drives and its alright, but not really worth paying for in my opinion so i uninstalled it. One thing i REALLY liked about it tho is it had a button that automatically stopped the drive so that you can remove it from the usb port safely. i'm wondering if anyone knows of a program that actually does exactly this, i just want it to maybe put a button the the desktop or something. i notice that you can right click the drive and select eject but i dont know if this actually does anything. is it safe to remove the drive by just doing that? thx guys!

Software to Easily Remove usb drive??

90% of the time you can get away with this. But I have had it wipe all the data off the flash drive on me. (yes with SP2 installed)
You can just click on the remove hardware icon in the lower right (normal left click) and then click on the device to stop and it is far faster than right clicking and choosing from the menu.

Left-click instead of right-click and it brings up a little menu right there for you to eject it. Took me a while to figure that one out.
I haven't tried this (don't have my usb drive with me) but you should be able to create a batch file to eject the drive, and then leave it on your desktop and/or map it to a keyboard shortcut.
The command line item is RSM, text of the .bat file should be something like
@echo
rsm eject /d e: {insert your drive letter here}

Edit: this will eject the drive, rather than stop it, but with sp2 you should be safe removing the drive once it's ejected as it won't be written to any more.

As long as you set the drive to disable write caching in the device manager, you shouldn't have to stop the drive at all. You can do this for external harddrives as well as usb drives. It's under the policies tab of the device once you are in the properties for the drive in the device manager. According to MS, this is safe for the drive to be removed without the "safe removal" icon.
