Hey guys, i'm about to start working on creating a software testing database for our company. We will be rolling out Vista soon after it is released along with all of our company software. Basically what we will be doing is recording problems users have with their machines and trying to categorize those problems so we can fix them or direct the user to where they can fix them. I was wondering if anyone had created a software testing database before. If so, what specs did you take from the user, what kind of fields / info was collected and how successful was it?

i also suggest bugzilla. very user friendly and keeps track of everything and what everyone is doing for the company. Pluss you can put password protection, to keep other departments from seeing you private stuff. we use it here at my work

Interesting. I don't know if they will go for something like that though. Eventually i'm going to build a web interface with an MS Access background. I was just curious if anyone had built anything similar to that and what fields they used / what specs they gathered from the user with the problem.

well i work for a company thats pretty huge, it has about 900 employees for just this 10 story building. pluss we have a branch in france. and the people from france and here in california are able to acess it. pluss i heard its pretty easy to setup. talk to you boss or manager about it, see what he or she says about it.

Will do, I wasnt able to find it on the site, I know it tracks bugs but will it let people report their own problems and things of that sort. I'm co-oping with this fortune 500 company and it looks like they write most of their own software so we will probably end up writing our own code.

yes that what people use it for here, to post people problems on issues. plus you can make attachments to people. like suppose you want another department to test you program out, so you send a attachment of the program with the message. It also works well if You combine CVS with bugzilla.
