software recommendation for splitting video files

So the program I usually use for this is Boilsoft Video Splitter.

Just did a fresh Win 7 install and wonder if I should look into anything else? Prefer freeware and something simple (all it will be used for is splitting).
 
Avidemux would be my recommendation. VirtualDub is awesome for such purposes as well but it requires that you have a bunch of codecs installed so it can actually read the files to do the splitting (full stream stuff).

Avidemux comes with the necessary codec files but doesn't require them to be installed with the OS - they're called upon as required so there's no muss or fuss, and none of the codecs can screw up whatever system codecs are in place. For Windows 7, that's probably the best tool for mucking around with videos all around, snipping clips from them, or saving a frame sequence, etc. Been using VirtualDub since it first appeared a very long time ago, but because of the codec thing, now I use Avidemux and I haven't looked back yet.
