Software overheating P4 3.0

I wondering if any one has heard of Dreamweaver CS3 overheating their CPU? or if there could be another explanation as to why I'm seeing my temps rise.

Here's my system specs (the rig is 4 years old, never overclocked), never had a problem till Sunday.

• Corsair TwinX1024-3200 PC3200 2X512MB DDR CAS2 Silver Heat Spreader
• Intel P4 3.0GHZ C 512K 800FSB S478 HT
• ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128DDR 256Bit, 8Xagp, S-Video-Out, DVI, Dual
• Windows XP Home Edition

I usually run Photoshop CS3, Dreamweaver CS3, firefox, Filezillia, Internet Explorer all tat once when working on daily tasks. Sunday night I started to get a warning sound from the computer. The CPU had gone over 85 degrees Celsius / 185 degrees Fahrenheit, this sounded the alarm.

I shut it down and left it until Monday, Monday I got a couple "dust off" cans and gave the inside a good cleaning.

Then booted it up and whatched the temp.. 41 degrees Celsius at idle in WinXP. surfed with Fire fox and checked email for about a half an hour.. temps stayed at 41, no problems.

Launched my usual slew of programs and the temp starts rising again...shut them all down and it drops. So then tried them one by one and noticed a very strange thing happening when I launch dreamweaver.

The temp rises the minute dreamweaver launches and never stops till I close dreamweaver... I graphed it with speedfan. screen shot is here:

I tried this on another computer and there was no spike when dreamweaver launched.
What could be causing my CPU to freak out on this one app? I have been using dreamweaver cs3 for months now without issue. I tried searching adobe help but they make no mention of such a problem.

any hints or ideas greatly appreciated.

It seems you have identified the problem. As to why it is suddenly doing this the only thing I can think of is that a file or executiable the program uses has been corrupted or it is trying to phone home etc.

Check to see if there are any updates to the program or bug fixes.

backup you DW data, take note of any settings, uninstall and then reinstall the application (there may be a "repair" option in the add/remove programs entry, worth a shot).

it is hard to say what is going on other than the obvious, it could even be that some recent windows update does not play nice with your application. /shrug. But it is going insane for some reason, eating up the cpu and raising temps, you could check for cpu utilization in task manager / processes and google whatever exec is stressing the cpu. It may be some feature or option of DW you do not need and could turn off. If DW has automatic updates it could have even damaged itself. A fresh install on a defraged disc should not hurt.
